a classic

Posted : 15 years, 1 month ago on 28 February 2009 06:29 (A review of Seven Doors Of Death - A.K.A. The Beyond (Widescreen Edition))

lucio fulci is a master of the horror genre. this is one of his best.

there may be nothing really new here (even for 1981 this might be a bit typical) but don't let that fool you, the movie has everything it needs to be a classic horror. its well written, creepy, scary at points, gory, and surprising.

the zombies in the movie are the old school stumbling type, which might put off some of the younger generations. they are a little less threatening than the fast zombies of today. even "night of the living dead's" zombies seemed more unrelenting than they do here. they're still creepy and there are a surprising number of them.

the ending is a minor let down. its meant to leave you completely given up hope...but it does come off a hair anti-climatic. i wasn't shocked by it and still it did seem appropriate rather than poorly ended.

zombie lambs

Posted : 15 years, 1 month ago on 28 February 2009 06:15 (A review of Black Sheep (Unrated))

ok just see it. pretty much everything sounds like this is a horrible concept for a movie but you'll be entirely surprised. there almost no mistakes made here. really fresh concept, excellent plot, good acting, nice filming.
its somewhere between funny and scary, and its worth every minute of it.

the first zombie lamb you see in the movie is hysterical and demented. see it for that alone! the zombie sheep...almost a twisted take on children of the corn creepiness. yikes!

worth seeing

Posted : 15 years, 1 month ago on 28 February 2009 06:08 (A review of Alucarda)

spanish horror is a bit over the top. lots of nudity, wild screaming, and religious themes, and of course lesbianism. all that's missing from this movie is a masked wrestler who saves the day.
all in all though this is an old school horror on the psychological side. its very moody and that makes it worth the while. the plot is ok and the acting fairly good. there are a number of laughable scenes and a couple annoying, but not enough to loose your attention.
strangely it feels both dated but not like every movie you've already seen at the same time.
